“This use of faith, to stifle your ability to think for yourself and cut you off from your intuition, can cause you to ignore or overlook warning signs of abuse, because you are discouraged from using the very faculties that would help you to spot them.”
Or worse yet, use it to romanticize and glamorize toxic and abusive relationships…. “Twin Flames” for instance. To paint the abuse as divine and sacred. Selling the idea that these people are the rarest of the rare and are on earth for a mission only they can achieve— for the greater good of… something?
This is such an excellent piece. It resonates so deeply. Thank you so much. ❤️
Sarah, 10 times yes! And don’t get me started on “Twin Flames”. Saw the Netflix and Amazon specials, and it was excruciating to witness such predatory abuse. I’m babysitting right now, so gotta keep this short, but had to hop in and thank you for your kind words, support and insights! ❤️
I was screaming at the tv watching those documentaries! I recognized how easy it would be to fall into those trappings. I was so close at the end of my relationship to buying into that. It would have been the end of me, without question.
Haha, me too! Depending how masochistic I'm feeling, it might be fun to do a Prime Video Watch Party together, and Science Theater it. It would take like years to go through the episodes though, because I'd have to stop and comment so often, lol. I do intend to re-watch them sometime, because these two documentaries are really rich in examples of what coercive abuse and narcissistic behavior patterns look like.
What's even more disturbing is they have a website that purports to have a method to help people heal from PTSD in record short time. So predatory behavior for those seeking love and those seeking relief from abuse.
Oooh a watch party would be fun! I agree, it would take years to get through because I’m certain the conversation about every bit would be thorough. lol
It’s such an infuriating watch.
So much of the twin flame stuff online (not just these folks) absolutely pedal narcissistic relationships. It’s unreal. Telling people to not just stay but chase the abuser because their soul needs to abuse in order to ascend. It’s insane and heartbreaking to see.
And there’s a ton of spiritual bypassing when it comes to “treating” ptsd (or anything). It’s that whole “you were born to suffer so you better learn to love it” nonsense.
I’m glad these documentaries were made and I hope it helps people get out of these dangerous situations.
Caroline, holding a sleeping baby in my arms right now, but had to stop in real quick and thank you for your gracious support and kind words! Thank you ❤️
