Hello Beautiful Heart!
As we move closer to winter and the cold it brings, I wish for you that you may open your heart to the warmth that emanates from inside you—even in the face of injustice, even in the face of tragedy or sorrow.
More and more, an unnatural cold seems to rise from the dark and threaten to take us with it. There is a collective shiver that runs down the back of humanity.
It’s the trauma of experiencing or witnessing tragedy and suffering, the falling into a state of numb-feeling, fear-feeling despair.
We are changed. It’s easy to comprehend how the person who experienced trauma can be inexorably changed, but so are those who witness or hear of traumatic events, in different but real ways.
And there are times we feel we lose ourselves.
I want you to know, whether through direct or indirect suffering, no matter how broken you may feel, there is that within you that is sacred and whole.
No matter how dark it gets, there is a light within you that will not go out.
No matter how deeply you are scarred, there is that within you that holds to life, and stubbornly declares love.
It declares you.
Healing can and does happen. It isn’t perfect but it can make all the difference, and you are worth every step you take to making that difference.
I want to share a song with you that has few words, but speaks deeply.
Stacey Young brought me the music. I knew right away what words belonged to it. There is joy in this music and in the words, because there is celebration every time you decide to look within.
So look within. Let the beauty that exists there, heal you, for as you heal, the world heals a little bit with you. It’s the best place to start, and then go to where it leads.
That’s how important your healing is. That is how important you are.
And I am grateful for you.
