A Thousand Points of Light
A poem for the victims and survivors of Epstein and Maxwell, and for all who survive sexual abuse.
Narrated by Demian
I am a survivor. Not of Epstein or Maxwell, but of my father. I wrote this after watching
’s Substack Live this past Friday, August 1st.He spoke of Epstein and Maxwell harshly, and deservedly so. He spoke of the victims with caring and compassion.
At the end, he said, “Friends, I wish I could end on an upbeat note,”(because he usually does), “but I don’t think I have one this evening. I’ll keep an eye out for one tomorrow, so that when we get together again, maybe we can find a point of light, but tonight, it’s dark… it’s dark. ”
I don’t know if you realize this, but when you speak out for victims of abuse, you speak on behalf of every victim. We hear you.
I was deeply moved because in a time when the main message seems to be that unless you’re part of the elite club of the richest or most powerful, you don’t matter.
But Glenn’s words made me feel like I mattered, and it brought me to tears. It’s one of many moments of unexpected grace I’ve been fortunate to be blessed with.
I had to do something. So, I wrote this poem.
A Thousand Points of Light
I have a point of light for you Up to one thousand points of light Each one reaching out Through the dark Through the doubts We reach for each other We form a constellation Rotating in the dark through tears that fall without notice They took our innocence But we are not without We have our courage We are survivors Not empty We are here, still, In body or memory, Lighting the way for ourselves and for others Our lives forever changed but not ruined Decimated but not destroyed Scattered but not broken Not even our Spirit in pieces, a thousand times drawn and quartered, is left forsaken Together, we are a thousand times stronger A constellation, a presence So strong we must be silenced But we are the songs of stars A thousand notes A thousand points We pierce the darkest night
